New Year New Things!

Hey my beauties!!! I’m soooo excited for all of the new things coming to the salon. If you’re subscribed to the blog...sshhh…you’re the first ones to know what’s coming up! I have two new major changes coming to the salon in the new year! First let’s talk education, all of my in the salon cuties already know I’m a proud self-proclaimed hair nerd. For years I’ve only invested in one type of hair extensions, which are the individual i-tip extensions. I-tip extensions are when individual extension strands are added to your hair with a tiny bead. This service can take anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on the client, how much fullness and/or length they desire. This method is very natural looking and moves with and like your natural hair. Most clients love the versatility and natural look, although many wish it didn’t take as long but perfection takes time.

Breaking news though! I’ve recently started a certification in a NEW hair extension method called Slice Strands. This method is just as natural looking as the i-tip extensions but with WAY less of a time commitment. For a full head installation it can take up to 2 hours (times will vary for clients that really want to add drama to their hair!) TWO HOURS???? That’s it? YUP! I will be in a certification course for the next 90 days making sure I understand the ins and outs of the process. What I loved most about this method, outside of the time saved, the creator of this method really wanted to focus these extensions around hair and scalp health. A woman after my own heart! The hair for this method is ethically sourced and is of the highest quality. The integrity of the extension hair can last 12-18 months. For comparison, the best hair on the market previously will last 9-12 months, so were talking about a serious upgrade in quality. I can not wait to continue to share what I’m learning and offering in the best extension methods for my clients.

Next up on new things for the salon, I will be welcoming an apprentice. Her name is Kinley Jordan and I’ve known her for quite some time (well over 10 years). She has always had her hand in the beauty industry in one form or another since I can remember. She currently does hair but wants to make her craft official and step her hair game up. What is an apprentice? Well an apprentice is different from an assistant. An assistant is someone that is currently in cosmetology school or recently graduated from cosmetology school and is an employee for the salon. Whereas, an apprentice is a licensed student of the salon. Let me explain, the cost of most cosmetology programs are anywhere between $20-$30K for one year (yes you read that correctly). So someone may forgo the cost of cosmetology and become an apprentice. As an apprentice, the salon you work for IS your cosmetology “school”. The salon takes on the responsibility of a cosmetology school and educates the apprentice on everything they need to know about hair, cosmetology and what it takes to pass stateboard. The salon becomes a teaching salon and the apprentice can work and learn at the same time. As the educating salon, you have the responsibility to ensure the FULL education of the apprentice and you get to have extra hands to help around the salon. It is a huge honor and responsibility to commit 18-24 months (the full commitment for the apprentice program in Georgia) to ensure the next generation of beauty professionals have what they need to really take on this career.

For my in salon cuties, feel free to ask as many questions about the new extension method and/or the new apprentice. I’m soooooo freakikn excited and can’t wait to get things going on all of the new things!!! Don’t forget to comment, subscribe and share! Until next time…SMOOCHES!!!!
